This week, I continued developing my time capsule idea, focusing on the topographical images I’ve collected as a hobby. The concept is evolving into a deeper exploration of the stories behind each location. As I researched more about each place, I uncovered fascinating histories and personal connections to the landscapes I’ve been drawn to.

For the fabrication of the time capsule, I’m focusing on tracing the outline of the islands because their heart-shaped contours are common and iconic features. I plan to use these outlines as openings to frame the view of my photo albums, showcasing each island. By layering these outlines, I aim to create a ripple effect, and I’ll use laser cutting to carve each layer. To further attract attention, I’ll mark each outline with the coordinates of the respective island, adding a sense of place and mystery to the piece.

Inside the capsule, I’m collecting documentary photos of each place alongside a short introduction to tell their story. I envision creating an accordion book format for each location, allowing the user to unfold the story layer by layer. I’m also considering combining all the booklets into a unified format to enhance the narrative flow.
Reflecting on this process, I’m excited about how the capsule will not only preserve these topographical images but also invite viewers to delve into the rich stories behind each location.
